Lets talk stress

We all feel stressed in our modern lives right? the pressure to perform, to achieve, to feel valuable in a society that constantly makes us feel less than worthy.

As we navigate our world we have the added need to maintain our health, which is hurt the most by this very stress we feel every day.

If you want to improve your body and health (and just feel better) then mitigating stress is your priority. This often comes down to what we DON'T do as opposed to what we do.

  • Remove processed foods and toxic chemicals. Comfort food may make you feel good in the short term, but inflammation caused by poor food quality will cause a rise in cortisol (the stress hormone) when this becomes chronic, we have a serious problem. Eat natural, single ingredients foods.
  • Reduce screen time as much as possible, especially one hour before bed.
  • Don't train every single day for hours on end. Try pulling your training back to just three days a week for anwhile and see how your body feels. You will probably find you start to progress again.
  • Most diets are acidic which causes the dreaded beast of chronic inflammation. Try to tip yourself into an alkaline state with the following - Greens with every meal, apple cider vinegar 2 x per day, tsp of sodium bicarbonate once per day and curcumin 2 x per day.
  • Cold baths alternated with the sauna on off days will help regulate your body's systems and relax you. 30-120s in the cold then 5-15 min in the sauna, back and forth for a total time of 5 minutes cold and 30 minutes hot.
  • If you have naturally low serotonin levels (naturally anxious, don' do well with fasting) have a frequent meals throughout the day that compose of quality carbohydrates.
  • After training, to bring your nervous system back down to rest, perform box breathing - 4s breath in, 4s hold, 4s breath out, 4s hold - for 2-5 minutes. Do this lying on your back on the floor with you feet elevated (placed on a bench)
  • Start a practice of meditation everyday even for just 10 minutes of focussing on the breath.

"“If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath.” - Amit Ray"

Look after yourself, train hard and live well.
